Apprenticeship funding
Apprentices earn while they learn — and both governments add grants, interest-free loans and bonuses along the way.
Before you're registered
Pre-apprenticeship programs are free, run up to 52 weeks, and can cover textbooks, safety equipment and tools.
While you're an apprentice
- Ontario Tools Grant — $400–$1,000 by trade sector after your level-one milestone ($1,000 motive power; $600 construction; $600 industrial; $400 service).
- Canada Apprentice Loan — up to $4,000 interest-free per technical training period (Red Seal trades). It's a loan: it must be repaid.
- Apprentice Development Benefit — living, dependant and travel supports during full-time in-class training.
When you finish
Ontario Apprenticeship Completion Bonus — $2,000 taxable bonus for eligible non-Red-Seal trades.
Watch out
The federal Apprenticeship Incentive and Completion Grants closed on March 31, 2025 — ignore old pages promoting them; we keep them listed only so you know they're closed.
